The combination of relevant core competencies and many years of hands-on experience during cable installation projects and subsequent work as consultants and marine surveyors, substantiates Penbridge Marine and the team’s stand-out qualifications.
Recent notable appointments as MWS, made by underwriters under policy conditions, to the 725km NeuConnect HVDC Interconnector project and ADNOC’s landmark HVDC Project Lightning, a first of its kind in the MENA region, demonstrates the confidence of the market in the value of this specialist knowledge.
The team have worked together for many years. Penbridge Marine was established to formalise prior collaboration between Red Penguin and Cambridge Marine and, since 2014, has collaborated on the delivery of MWS services on a number of significant HVDC projects including: COBRA cable, Straits of Belle Isle crossing and NordBalt, in addition to a number of other power transmission projects in conventional and renewable markets, and for submarine telecoms systems.
Bringing together a group of highly experienced cable industry professionals with comprehensive sector specific technical skills allied to extensive marine warranty survey knowledge and experience, Penbridge Marine gives insurers and related interested parties access to a multi-disciplinary team of senior industry professionals with a strong track record in the subsea cable industry and marine warranty survey sector.

Danny is a founding partner of Penbridge Marine and an experienced Company Director. He is a Master Mariner, with a long seafaring career as cable ship commander and DP master of dive support ships. He is an accomplished marine surveyor, consultant, offshore manager and client representative with extensive experience and knowledge of maritime issues as well as holding a Lloyds diploma for marine surveying. His experience covers a range of surveys for suitability, condition, club and warranty surveys on a range of vessel types.
Danny’s expertise in all aspects of marine operations and, in particular, cable installation and repair operations, is built upon a career in the subsea cable industry of more than 47 years. Danny also brings to Penbridge Marine his experience as in-house Principal Mariner with a large maritime and O&G specialist consultancy in the USA.
Chris is an experienced marine warranty surveyor, cable engineering consultant, and Company Director. He is a founding partner of Penbridge Marine and founder and CEO of Red Penguin, leading specialist consultants in the submarine cable industry.
During a more than 35-year career in the submarine cable industry, Chris has acquired a wealth of experience in a broad range of related disciplines both ashore and at sea. A Master Mariner with 10 years command and management experience of cable installation and maintenance operations, with the perspective of diverse management roles ashore in cable system design, planning, installation and maintenance as well as vessel and project engineering, planning and management. He has worked extensively with investors and developers of major subsea cable infrastructure projects and systems, loss adjusters and cable operators, providing a range of expert services, including technical and commercial risk control, auditing and due diligence and evidence at arbitration. His diverse and comprehensive experience of maritime matters and submarine cable projects across different industry sectors provides the basis for a fully informed perspective on cable project risks.

Richard Goldring

A founding partner of Penbridge Marine, prior to his retirement in 2025, Richard was retained by underwriters in the Lloyd’s of London marine market and appointed warranty surveyor under policy conditions for submarine cables, prior to which he held senior roles in for a submarine cable system supplier and as an independent consultant for power cable installations and repairs.
Richard’s somewhat unique combination of studies in economics, English law and the marine insurance market together with his engineering knowledge and cable sector experience provides a solid foundation from which to advise Penbridge Marine’s activities and its team.
